What is it?
High Lakes Leadership Initiative is a fun opportunity to polish your leadership and communication skills, expand your professional and social networks, understand community issues and explore Union County.

Who can participate?

Anyone who lives, works, or conducts business in Union County, Iowa. Our goal is to include individuals in all areas of our community.

Can I enroll without a nomination?

You are encouraged to self nominate, instructions will be sent to you on how to apply directly.

I don't have any leadership experience - does this training apply to me?

This program applies to all community members, regardless of their experience in formal leadership roles. At some point in time, everyone has had experience in leadership, including you!

How much time will it take to participate?

The nine training sessions add up to roughly 45 hours.

What if I cannot attend all of the session?

Active participation and team building are important aspects of the High Lakes Leadership Initiative, so it is extremely important that participants attend all sessions. In the case of an emergency or unavoidable business conflicts, participants are allowed two absences and will be expected to make up the learning/work missed. Failure to attend or obtain prior permission to miss a class may result in the participant not graduating and forfeiture of tuition payment.

When are the sessions?

The sessions will be held on a bi-weekly basis starting typically in January into May each year.  Most sessions will run from 12:30 to 4:30pm. Refer to the schedule posted on the web site.

How much does it cost?

Tuition for the eight sessions is only $250.00, payable prior to the first session. This includes all copies, supplies and scheduled meals. Participants are encouraged to contribute $50.00 of their own funds. Typically the employer or respective organization will contribute the remainder.

How do I approach my employer about sharing the cost of the program?

Approach your employer about your professional development goals. Benefits to your employer include enhanced team building skills, connecting employees to local decision makers, increased overall employee networks, and improved employee understanding of key community trends.

What if I am not currently employed?

Work status is not important in determining participant selection as long as you live in Union County. Community members who are self employed, currently unemployed or externally employed are encouraged to apply.

Will there be homework?

Yes. You are expected to participate in assigned activities and discussions outside of the regular sessions.
